چکیده

The measurable list chromatic number of a graph G is the smallest number ξ such that if each vertex v of G is assigned a set L(v) of measure ξ in a fixed atomless measure space, then there exist sets c(v) ⊆ L(v) such that each c(v) has measure one and c(v) ∩ c(v′) = ∅ for every pair of adjacent vertices v and v′. We provide a simpler proof of a measurable generalization of Hall’s theorem due to Hilton and Johnson [J. Graph Theory 54 (2007), 179–193] and show that the measurable list chromatic number of a finite graph G is equal to its fractional chromatic number.

Extending Hall's Theorem into List Colorings: A Partial History

In 1988, A. J. W. Hilton and P. D. Johnson Jr. found a natural generalization of the condition in Philip Hall’s celebrated theorem on systems of distinct representatives. This generalization was formed in the relatively new theory of list colorings of graphs. Here we give an account of a strand of development arising from this generalization, concentrating on extensions of Hall’s theorem. New r...

Defective List Colorings of Planar Graphs

We combine the concepts of list colorings of graphs with the concept of defective colorings of graphs and introduce the concept of defective list colorings. We apply these concepts to vertex colorings of various classes of planar graphs. A defective coloring with defect d is a coloring of the vertices such that each color class corresponds to an induced subgraph with maximum degree at most d. A...

Defining Sets and Uniqueness in Graph Colorings: a Survey

There are different ways of coloring a graph, namely vertex coloring, edge coloring, total coloring, list coloring, etc. Literature is full of fascinating papers and even books and monographs on this subject. This note will briefly survey some results on two concepts in graph colorings. First we discuss the uniqueness of graph colorings and then we introduce the concept of defining sets on this...

Algorithms to Approximately Count and Sample Conforming Colorings of Graphs

Conforming colorings naturally generalize many graph theory structures, including independent sets, vertex colorings, list colorings, H-colorings and adapted colorings. Given a multigraph G and a function F that assigns a forbidden ordered pair of colors to each edge e, we say a coloring C of the vertices is conforming to F if, for all e = (u, v), F (e) 6= (C(u), C(v)). We consider Markov chain...

Measurable 3-colorings of Acyclic Graphs

This is the first of two lectures on measurable chromatic numbers given in June 2010 at the University of Barcelona. Our main result here is that acyclic locally finite analytic graphs on Polish spaces admit Baire measurable 3-colorings.
